If you search the internet for the best way to go vegan, you may be advised to watch the Earthlings movie. Earthlings is primarily aimed at a US audience but is still useful knowledge for everyone else.
The UK version of Earthlings is called Land of Hope And Glory. I’ve provided links to both movies at the bottom of this post.
Watching either movie educates fast. It shows what animals experience in order to become our food.
The movies reveal the disregard we exhibit for animal lives. The information they contain should be common knowledge from childhood. But the truth about how animals are processed in the food chain is hidden from practically every child, except I imagine, those of slaughterhouse workers.
On discovering how meat and dairy reach the table, most children want no part in it. However old we are when we find out, the movie is intended to make us understand the role we’ve each played, in animal suffering.
Earthlings Might Cause Psychological Damage
Unfortunately, the movie may have negative psychological consequences for viewers. If you want to start on the path to a vegan lifestyle, and already feel compassion for animals, I advise that you avoid watching the movie.
There is no point in experiencing the horror of Earthlings if all you need is a bit more encouragement. We tend to think that eating a vegan diet is too difficult to sustain and therefore never really start. I found that going vegan over a period of time made it easier.
An Alternative To Watching Animal Suffering Movies
Rather than watching Earthlings, imagine instead, the worst animal torture you can (sorry). Then, multiply these worst nightmares 100,000 times. Then blame yourself and all other meat eaters for the anguish you experience. Feel the hypocrisy and hold it close. Next, realise that the hypocrisy can stop once you become vegan. It’s that simple.
You didn’t need to watch Earthlings after all, and you saved yourself unnecessary stress. Follow these ridiculously simple steps, to get started on the actual “eating” part of this process.
But Should We Have To Suffer?
Animals suffer hellish lives because of meat and dairy producers and consumers. While I agree that in an ideal world we should be made to suffer but I don’t think that applies if you’re eating a vegan diet. For many of us it is simply too much to bear. So get yourself a pass and go vegan.
The special education is best left for those who have heard how much animals suffer, yet continue to oppress animals and make them die for food. These videos should be played in supermarkets in the meat aisles.
Don’t Care About Animals?
Some people do freely admit that they care little about animal suffering. Bacon, sausages, cheese and steaks are so important that if animals go through a hellish existence and then a hellish death to provide them, so what. I have friends who have told me this.
The Earthlings movies may help people to change their minds. I hope they do.
